To many people a Lay Priest appears much like a Monk,
they are not a truely ordained priest and they often don a similar habit of
simple brown cloth. A Lay priest, however, performs his work to minister to
the people, not his own soul. Though there are many priests in Tanaloth they
have need of willing helpers to officiate at temples, carry alms to the poor,
perform readings from the holy writings, and tend the gardens. These tasks
are performed by the Lay Priest. He may be a farmer by day, or a carpenter,
leatherworker, even the owner of a Tavern, but at certain times he dons his
garb and goes to help the Priest's in their holy work. Lay Priests often conduct
religeous teachings for children and are responsible for keeping many of the
minor shrines and chapels about Tanaloth clean and safe.
