There are many orders of Monks in Tanaloth, some as small as 20 members,
some, like the Monestary of the Rock, well known landmarks of the city. A
Monk is someone who has not been ordained, but who has dedicated his or her
life to religeous devotion. A Monk usually spends mouch of their time at their
monestary, under the command of the Abbot, engaged in prayer and physical
tasks, which are thought to improve the soul. Monks are well known for mastering
such crafts as Brewing, and Herbalism. While a Monk makes a vow to own no
property and to possess no more than they can carry with them they enjoy a
nominal legal status wich makes them holy and immune to normal temporal judgement.
Unfortunatly there are as many corrupt and impious Monks, so common belief
holds, as holy ones, and they often run afoul of the law if they stray from
their Monestaries. A number of Monks take a vow of Mendicacy. A Mendicant
Monk (10pt Disadvantage repalacing their Duty) has no home and lives on the
charity of others, begging and brining blessings. Many Mendicants wander the
countryside staying with the poor. The life of a Mendicant is not easy, but
they have no masters and few duties to perform.
