A Confessor is a Priest assigned to a particular man or woman, be they a superior in the church, a powerful merchant, or a Knight. It is the confessor's place to give them personal religeous advice and to hear their confessions to absolve them of sins. In the church of Au even a powerful Hierarch may have a Confessor. Traditionally the status of the Confessor is almost as great as that of the person they are attached too, and often a Confessor lives in great wealth and prestige.
