I don't think I've got this one quite right yet. Any thoughts? All the best Al AUTHOR'S NOTE: Another all my own work file! Jeez, you'd almost think I was being original:) A bit too much of me in this guy though... FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION Special Affairs Division Security Clearance Roosevelt Thomas Moss-"The Media Junkie" File Number X102 Investigating Agents Special Agent Catherine Maria Shenko Special Agent Daniel Philip Hanrahan SUMMARY OF EVENTS A series of robberies took place in the Washington area between August 27th 1995 and March 5th 1996. In each case, a different form of electronic equipment was stolen in bulk, ranging from seventy flatscreen TVs in the first robbery to a satellite set up on the last. The perpetrator was eventually revealed to be one Thomas Moss, a college graduate and lab assistant at PHARMAKOM SUMMARY OF INVESTIGATION Agent Hanrahan and I were assigned the case following the last robbery, when the man responsible, before leaving, screamed "Hail 2101!" before leaving. Robbery had already passed the case on to Anti-Terrorist, assuming 2101 was some form of bizarre terrorist faction. They'd come up with nothing, meaning that Robbery assumed it was a cult, ensuring that the case fell under our remit. We both agreed that the cult explanation seemed plausible, and proceeded to check our files on all known cults and paranormal organisations with specific reference to the Technocracy and the Iteration X sub-division of it. However, nothing in our existing files shed any extra light on either large scale electronics theft or the number 2101. Having drawn a blank on the Files, Agent Hanrahan suggested, and I agreed that we check the powergrid of the area. If it was a cult of some kind, then the chances were the equipment would all be set up in one location, drawing far more power than normal. As a result, we were granted access to the Washington State Power grid, and began working out from the electronics stores in circles of one kilometre. The work was very slow, very boring and, after the first three days, had drawn a complete blank. By this time, we were at ten kilometres out from the electronics stores. It was then that I hit on a possible interpretation of 2101. The cable companies in Washington State use a four digit employee ID number system, all of which start with the number two. I ran 2101 through their system and found one Thomas Moss, employee number 2101 hadn't reported for work since the week of the first robbery. We ran a powergrid check on his house, and discovered that his electrical bill had quadrupled since the start of the robberies. The clinching piece of evidence came when surveillance obtained the serial number of the Satellite dish mounted on the house. It was the unit which had been stolen. Tactical raided the house a week later, with myself and Agent Hanrahan assisting. There were thirty people in the house, and we recovered eight thousand dollars worth of unregistered firearms, along with the 1.2 million dollars of electrical equipment. It was only once we had the cult in custody that we discovered their true nature. Thomas Moss was their leader and he claimed he had had an epiphany whilst installing Cable TV in a Washington home. He had received a severe electrical shock, and had been made aware of the significance of the number 2101. He was convinced the number provided the answer to life in some way, and that if he could learn to process information on 2101 levels simultaneously, he would achieve Godhood and be able to teach mankind how to evolve to the next stage of our development. Agent Hanrahan took Moss to be little more than a maniac. I however, insisted on running tests on him. We placed a series of subliminal images and messages in twenty TV transmissions and broadcast them simultaneously at Moss. He had all the messages and images in under a minute. We moved up to fifty, his time went down to twenty five seconds. This process continued until 1980 separate channels of information for Moss to pick 1980 separate images out of at once. It took him five minutes. I went on to ask him why he wanted to evolve through television. Moss pointed out that the apes learnt to walk upright so they could reach the fruit more easily. Television is a dominant force in human life, so why shouldn't it be a force of evolutionary change? In short, he believes that the answer to life is concealed in Television. All he has to do is watch enough of it at once. I then inquired as to how he'd met his disciples. Moss explained that they were his customers and he had asked them to join him. They had, without a second thought and had given all their money towards funding the robberies. Together, they had monitored 1988 separate channels of television, netsurfed constantly and pored over every possible means of visual communication they could. And there, at present, the matter stands. The 2101 Cult have been charged with the robberies and all look set to be convicted. CONCLUSION This is not so much a case of mutation, more of intellectual delusion. Moss and his cult have all exhibited tremendous increases in IQ and intellectual capability, and, at present, there seems no rational explanation. However, with a similar cult reported in London, it seems likely that this may be a developing phenomenon, worthy of further investigation and research Special Agent Catherine Maria Shenko and Special Agent Daniel Hanrahan Playing Thomas Moss and the 2101 Cult in the World of Darkness General Thomas and the 2101 Cult are basically harmless people, Media Junkies who want to do nothing more than analyse and collate. However, get between them and their TV and they get homicidally violent. However, all in all, the Cult should be played in a similar way to Brother Theo and co on BABYLON 5. A calm, placid group of people who simply want to learn and, unfortunately, have to resort to criminal acts to do so. Other Races' Views Camarilla: Fascinating. I wonder whether it would work for us? Sabbat: No!No! Attack of the Killer Couch Potatoes!!!! Garou: Harmless and rather pathetic people. I'm not sure if Gaia has turned her back on them, or they have turned their back on her. Magi: Not Sleeper, not Awakened. An interesting side step, nothing more. Wraiths: They have no meaning to us. Changelings: Such a wonderful idea too! They may even have a point ... Immortals: They don't bother us. We don't bother them. However, they might just have got a shortcut to the Prize...
