Using the Boards

Cardinal Rules

  1. Do not offend anyone. You can be mockingly humerous or even playfully insulting on the Inn Board but even there you should never be genuinly offensive. People who offend other board users, either by insulting them on or off the board will be barred from all the boards. On any board other than the Inn even playful insults may be regaded badly.
  2. Do not ruin the HTML formatting of the boards. Always put closing tags for any that you open. We realise that in most cases such mistakes are indeed mistakes and we will do uor best to fix them, however any person suspected of deliberatly ruining a board will be barred to all boards.
  3. Do what the maintainers tell you. If a maintainer, such as David, tells you to stop a particular line of posting etc. because it is deemed to be offensive... do so. We try our best not to interfere in any board unless asked by other users, but if we are asked please listen to us.

Tips

A few common ways of denoting things on the boards have grown up. You do not have to follow these, but you may want to.

Each message can be be begun with a bold target, such as David, All or RE: AD&D, either to get someones attention or to denote a subject.

In a message 'in character' the actions of a character as opposed to the words, are often placed in square brakets [thus]

Finally a message 'In character' can often contain out of character segements in parenthesis, (thus) this is the loosest guideline of all, many people just mix in and out of character stuff.

The Demons

It has recently become apparent that a pair of evil demons infest the boards, particularly the Inn. These are the Demon of Crossposting and the Demon of Double posts The first is by far the worst, and causes you to post a reply to a message which overlapps with a reply to a previous messgae of yours and so on, or even worse causes you to miss someone because they post a message saying "I'm off" while you are writing a message saying "Hello". The only way to defeat this demon is with frequent reloads! The second demon is less common, but more insidious, for he strikes without warning, causing the last thing you posted to appear twice, or even three times. There appears to be little that can be done about this curse. While both of these Demons have been slain frequently in the Inn they nevertheless seem to come back time and again!

An important tool for dealing with the second Demon is the Latest 20 posts to all boards script. This pops up a new window wich shows the most recent 20 posts to all the boards and which updates itself every 30 seconds. Thus you can see if someone posts somthing which may or may not invalidate what you are currently writing.
