Games Workshop

A British games company not to be confused with the American 'Games Design workshop'. Although at first a manufarturer and distributer of board games and RPGs such as Judge Dredd the RPG a merger with miniatures manufacturers Citadel Miniatures turned GW into a manufacturer of miniature based wargames most notably:

Games Workshop has now turned itself into one of the world's most successful gaming companies with rapidly rising stock. This was partly due to the quality of is games but equally to highly aggressive marketing techniques. These techniques saw saturation Trade marking and Copyrighting, a proliferation of offers and promotional tours/events, and the conversion of the formerly wide-ranging White Dwarf into a vehicle for GW advertising. While such techniques were undeniably successful they led to GW being accused of selling itself out, and trading quality of product for a quick profit, especially since its target market rapidly shifted from 20-30 year olds to 8-13 year olds (a group easily swayed by advertising).

In more recent years however (1993+) GW has improved White Dwarf and made its advertising (though not perhaps sales-training) less aggressive, acknowledging that although its shops may be full of children older males make up a significant share of its customers.
