The Church of Saint Elphastus

The Church of St. Elphastus

Key

  1. Main Entrance

  2. High Alter, brought from the former shrine to St. Elphastus. This main hall would have one window at the West end and possibly 3 on the North wall and 2 on the South wall

  3. Small Chapel. Probably has one window in the South (facing) wall, and maybe one in the West wall as well.

  4. Knights of St. Elphastus shrine, and dedication to Ina's Knight

  5. Lodgings for resident Priest (also access to the roof)

  6. Hidden attic space, perhaps storage for secret items

  7. Basement Chapel, possibly reserved for private rituals, based on current chapel and incorporating new alter

  8. Vestry, room for the storage of robes, goods, etc.

  9. Catacombs, modified from existing burial ground

  10. Church storage area, modified from area connected to well

  11. Storage area extension, runs under new Library and connects to it via stair

The following map shows the relation of the Church to the surrounding buildings. Each of the arrows marks a doorway (some not shown on the map above) connecting to another building. The areas in blue show where existing structures will be modified to provide linkage to the surrounding buildings. On the North side a short passage links to the Undercroft, while on the South side a small vestibule gives access to the Library and the Cloister passage.
