James is a teacher with a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of North Texas and an Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Music - Recording Technology from Cedar Valley Community College. His creativity and discipline has led him through a path of awards and honors including a Jazz scholarship recieved while attending Brookhaven College. From his first classes at The Dallas Arts Magnet to Jazz Guitar Master Class with Jack Petersen of UNT, his determination to grow as a professional musician and teacher continues.
Beginning students focus on basic chord structure, strumming, and finger picking to help the student develop a love for the instrument.
The advanced curriculum encourages the student to develop his or her own style through the use of harmonic studies and chord/scale relationships.
His studies in music have led him through a variety of schools including The Dallas Arts Magnet at Booker T. Washington, The University of North Texas, Cedar Valley College, as well as Brookhaven College.
Live performance experience includes jazz big bands, jazz combos, vocal jazz ensembles, wind ensembles, as well as local contemporary bands.
