The Reception
THE DECORATIONS:
Dark wood trellises were set up on the sides of the stage area where the cake was set on a table - also in the windows of the basement reception area. Battenburg lace hearts (3, of course, per side) were set against the trellises by the stage. Ivy was everywhere, with Queen Anne's Lace, red astilbe, blue daisies, roses and candles.
THE CAKE:
It was a beautiful spice cake, white frosting, with white and red roses, three-tier... the bottom two tiers were stacked, the top layer was on pedestals. There were pearls draped around each layer, a centerpiece under the top layer with lace, pearls and red roses). The topper was a white ceramic, unpainted Royal Doulton bride and groom.
THE FOOD TABLE:
The food table was red, covered with white lace, and pulled up at intervals, blue flowers nicely pulled in the blue curtains that were already on the windows. Candles, lace hearts, more red and white bows and flowers and white lace...and tiny Japanese umbrellas brought by Jeff's mom and dad.
THE GIFT TABLE:
The Gift table was also decorated with red cloth, lace (gathered in the shape of a heart), Battenburg hearts (three of course, two large and one small) and ivy.
THE COMPUTER TABLE:
There was a computer table set up and logged in to irc in the reception area with a registered channel (#carter_wedding) on Dalnet that was open for irc chatting with several of their friends who were unable to attend in person, but cyber-attended anyway. Email access was also open for those who could not access irc. The wedding web page, http://www.alliance.net/~carters/wedding was set up, during the reception immediately following the wedding, with Polaroid pictures that were taken during the ceremony. All told, including those who showed up in person, on email, via irc, or by accessing the web page, attendees came from all over the U.S., Canada, Australia, Greece, Japan, South Africa and England.
THE FOOD:
Several people brought home-made sweet breads, vegetables and dip, melt-in- your-mouth butter mints, peanuts, cake (of course) and punch made of 7Up, frozen lemonade, and vanilla ice cream, (with ice circles floating in the center with frozen lime and lemon slices in them...)
Unfortunately, there wasn't much time for the newlyweds to eat cake or anything... they managed to get a taste in when they fed each other a piece, but that was almost all they got.
Plates and napkins were red, white and light blue to match the blue curtains and flowers and pull it all together.

They stayed until 5:30 completing the preliminary web page setup and stuff, then went out to the car which was covered with red and yellow streamers, soaped on words (in both Japanese and English) and bows stuck on all over the place. The car was full of balloons and a bunch of cans were tied to the bumper... and we clanged on our way!
A very special thanks to Lucy Zehr who helped Donna's mom with all the decorations as well as the set-up and serving at the reception and was of immense help... and thank-you's also to Laura Hendricks who was a great help to mom with the clean-up, to Mimi Barker, who helped serve at the reception, and to Ian McLeod who handled various duties and made himself generally indispensible!
