The Honeymoon

We drove from the church in our beribboned/becanned car, stopped at the hotel to get Jeff's stuff, then stopped at Donna's mom and dads to get our stuff, and drove up to Sybaris, a pool suite hotel in Mequon, Wisconsin... hey, this was no small thing! This room had a pool, steam room and everything... (and mirrors everywhere ... but it was a classy place, not set up tacky or anything.) They had everything there that anyone would need for a getaway, and because it was our honeymoon as well as both our birthdays being in July, we had a complimentary bottle of champagne, two complimentary crystal champagne glasses, as well as two complimentary crystal "on-the-rocks" glasses, etched with "Sybaris" and a single rose on each. Checkout time was 5:00 Sunday afternoon. Funny thing... it poured that night... all the decorations got washed off (they had written all over the windows in soap) so the car was nice and clean, with a few bows still tenaciously clinging to some of the windows.

We drove from there up to Carney, Michigan (in Upper Peninsula [U.P.] Michigan) where we met some of Jeff's friends/co-workers who gave us use of their cabin back in the woods. It was a cute little two-bedroom hunting cabin with all the necessary amenities (minus a microwave) and we enjoyed spending time there, as well as visiting once with those friends who let us use the place... and eating steak at a local smorgasbord by the name of "Hirsch's" (excellent 28-oz. char-grilled Porterhouse steaks, by the way, that you could cut with a butter knife and melted in your mouth...)

The cabin was painted barn red outside, but the interior was all rustic wood and decorated with stuffed deer heads, feet and antlers, etc. (it was a hunting cabin, what do you expect? But it was nice and quite cozy). Kitchen/dinette, living room, two bedrooms and a small bathroom.

There were scattered showers the whole time we were there, but it didn't seem to affect our plans much since we spent most of the time inside anyway.

Tuesday afternoon, we left the cabin, drove down to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where we spent the night and then Wednesday we walked around downtown Lake Geneva before we headed back to Wheaton, Illinois.

We dropped by Donna's mom and dads, visited with them a bit, packed up the car (and I mean PACKED!!) with wedding stuff, and then we headed out to pick up Melissa from Jeff's parents and headed to Holland, Michigan where we set up our new home.

So, now we are home, snug as three bugs in a rug, and adjusting to married and family life here.
