~^~ Day Two of Class Reunion ~^~ Tuesday ~^~ July 1, 2003
Super day. The sun was shining as usual. I was peeling from the sunburn, but mostly peeled off already.
Anne-Marie and Ned Thomas came over around mid morning and we went down Amazonas price shopping for tomorrow's trip to Otavalo / Cotacachi / San Antonio. I got a pretty blouse, a pair of sandals and a pair of earrings for Melissa (totalling about $8.00), and a T-shirt for the chiropractor (only $5). Gotta comment on the prices. I only quote them because they were so inexpensive it's worth noting.
While on Amazonas, we stopped at a restaurant and ate lunch - I picked Combo #2 which had locro de papas, llapingachos, carne, ensalada, and jugo de mora (potato soup, potato patties with cheese, meat, salad and mora juice). Moras are like black raspberries.
We came back in a taxi to the mission, and I went to the office to see about my grandpa's grave site. They have finished laying the flagstone, but will be letting it set and dry before covering it with lacquer next week, so I will go next week to see it when it's complete.
At 3:00 a bunch of alumni from our era played a soccer game and then we all got together at the dorm for pizza. It was great. From my class: Matthew & Leti Hess, Ned Thomas, Michio & Anne-Marie Ozaki, Tim & Ruth (Erdel) Stuck, and me. From the class of '79: Russ and Lori Meehan, Phil & Debbie Douce. And David Tiezen from the class of '76 dropped in as well. We were hoping to see Rick (79) & Ron (82) Borman, Russ Cline (82), and some others in the area, but they weren't able to make it.
A great time was spent with friends I have had for so long, and haven't seen for so long. None of us wanted the evening to end, but by 10:30, we were all getting tired and everybody's kids were needing to go to bed, and since most of us are getting up early to go out tomorrow, we all had to call it a night.
What a great time! I wished Jeff and Melissa could have been with me. They'd have had a wonderful time as well. It's so great to have friends of such long standing that when you reunite even after years apart, it's like you were never separated.
Went home tired and happy and got on chat. Jeff got Melissa up out of bed to chat with me since I hadn't been able to chat with her for a while.
Tomorrow is up bright and early to drive two hours away to the Otavalan market and find the blouses and sweaters and jackets and trinkets and stuff to bring home for friends and family. I decided to wait til Sunday on the leather goods since the Moncayos were taking me on Sunday, to Quisapincha - a better leather place near Ambato - and I was hoping I'd see Tungurahua still spewing smoke and ashes into the air there, too.
